Simple Bookkeeping Tips

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of accounting/bookkeeping in your small business?

Is it Oh My Gosh look at this box full of receipts that I have to figure out? I have no idea how much money I make? I drive all the time, but where did I put down that piece of paper with my mileage on it?

These are a lot of things that I hear clients mention.

Here are just a few simple tips on how to make your accounting/ bookkeeping easier if you are keeping track of it yourself.

1.     Download an app and scan all those receipts into it as you get them.  A good one out right now is called “Shoeboxed”.

2.     Get a business checking account and don’t mix personal finances and business finances together.  This will help you keep track of expenses, and earnings better.

3.     For those of you that track mileage there are apps out there that can help you manage this.  Or if you find apps aren’t great for you try keeping a notebook in your car and maybe take a few minutes every month to transfer it into the app.

What is a problem that you have? There may be a simple tip that I can share to help you.
